[Special Invitation] Year End Support for Women Veterans: Champagne, Courage & A Cause – A Pink & White Affair

When Women Veterans transition to civilian life, they bring exceptional leadership, adaptability, discipline and problem-solving skills, which were honed through service life and strengthened under pressure. And yet, too often, they find themselves confronting a new (and often unexpected) set of challenges: navigating civilian life without the resources, recognition, workplace opportunities, or community they deserve.

These challenges are unique to Women Veterans. And they require unique solutions. That’s why targeted outreach and strong community networks are not just important; they are essential to ensuring every Woman Veteran can thrive beyond her service.

As we move into the holiday season, we’re calling on you to help us close the gap, to empower Women Veterans’ success, and to celebrate their resilience. Your impact matters, and this is how you can make a difference.

Women Veterans’ Post Military Experience

Often feeling invisible to the greater society, Women Veterans face challenges that aren’t shared by male Veterans or their female non-Veteran counterparts. The state of Women Veterans’ post-military experience serves as a loud rally cry that more robust support is needed.

Obstacles to reliable childcare

Women Veterans are more likely than their male counterparts to be a single parent with children living in the home. And, Women Veterans are more likely than their nonveteran women peers to be the sole provider for their children.

Employment gaps and financial insecurity

recent VA study said that post-9/11 Women Veterans “have a lower labor force participation than non-Veteran women.” The report also said that Women Veterans have lower rates of full-time employment. As compared to male Veterans, Women Veterans take an average of three months longer to find a job. Another study found that 37% of Women Veterans take a pay cut when they accept a civilian job, as compared to 23% of male Veterans.

Mental health struggles and homelessness

According to a study from the Department of Veterans Affairs, women are the fastest-growing subset of homeless Veterans. As compared to male Veterans, Women Veterans are more likely to be homeless with children. Almost 25% of Women Veterans have been diagnosed with depression, and 20% of Women Veterans struggle with PTSD. Women Veterans are 1.8 times more likely than civilian women to commit suicide.

These realities make one thing clear: a one-size-fits-all approach to Veterans’ services does not work

WVIF’s Targeted Approach to Support Women Veterans

WVIF’s integrated, women-centered model exists because Women Veterans deserve real services that meet them at their points of need, not platforms that expect them to adapt to systems that were never built for them. WVIF exists to remove barriers that stand in the way of Women Veterans’ post-military success.

Meeting Women Veterans at their Points of Need

Our approach is designed to meet 3 pillars of impact:

  1. Transition
  2. Safety
  3. Health and Wellness

Targeted Outreach and Programs

Over the years, we’ve expanded programs to serve Women Veterans across the nation. We partner with community organizations and corporations to bring empowering events and critical services to local communities, including but not limited to:

    • NYC Dept of Veterans Services Women Veterans Pink & White Empowerment Luncheon in New York City
    • State of Women Veterans summit at the Military Women’s Memorial in Arlington, VA
    • Pink & White Empowerment Summit with presenting sponsor Fiserv in Atlanta, GA
    • Women Veterans Interactive National Conference in the National Capital Region
    • Annual Veterans Benefits Claims Clinics in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Baltimore Regional Office.

Local Community Chapters

WVIF members have formed community chapters in four separate locations. These members organize events, scholarship opportunities, fundraisers, and service projects in their local communities.

They also directly support Women Veterans in crisis situations, through Operation Safety Net, a program that provides Women Veterans emergency financial support to prevent homelessness, provide warm meals, and offset the cost of utilities.

Chapters are open to WVIF members, and they are located in:

    • Washington, D.C.
    • Fayetteville, NC,
    • Atlanta, GA
    • Richmond, VA
