Every Veterans Day, the nation turns its attention to the contributions and sacrifices of the women and men in uniform. This sacred holiday is a time to honor all Veterans; we at WVIF pay special honor to the women who have served and sacrificed for our country. You have shaped our nation’s history, blazing trails through extraordinary service.
You’ve not just participated in the story of America’s military; you’ve helped write it. You have served, taken on missions, faced dangers, and overcome barriers—many of which went beyond the battlefield. True pioneers, you’ve forged the pathway for future generations to follow.
This is the Woman Veteran’s Creed. And this Veterans Day, we’re honored to recite it with you.
Answering the Call
When my country called, I answered. You stepped forward to serve your country without hesitation. You answered the call to serve not just to defend the country, but to embody its highest values—freedom, justice, and equality.
This meant stepping into a role that society didn’t always expect women to fill. It meant standing strong in the face of adversity and proving that the courage to serve knows no gender. You made a profound choice to serve something greater than yourself.
Breaking Barriers and Paving New Roads
When there is no road ahead, I paved one. For too long, women were seen as secondary players in the defense of our nation, relegated to support roles rather than combat missions.
But you shattered this misconception.
From the nurses in World War I who saved countless lives, to you – the pilots, soldiers, and commanders serving in modern-day conflicts – you’ve taken charge when there was no road ahead, building pathways not just for yourself but for all those who would follow.
You are the spirit of perseverance that inspires every woman and little girl around you. Obstacles stood in your way, and you knocked them down. Bars blocked incredible achievements, and you unlocked them.
You’ve made the world take notice. Now, you stand as examples of what courage, determination, and strength truly look like.
Beyond Rank, Beyond Uniforms
When there is no ladder to climb, I built one. Leadership is not simply about rank or title. It’s about setting a standard, lifting others, and knowing when to step forward and do the tough work. From the battlefield to the boardroom, you are this type of leader. Your embodiment of true leadership extends beyond military structures, influencing communities and inspiring generations.
As military leaders, you didn’t just rise through the ranks—you created opportunities for others to rise alongside you, to rise after you. From advocacy, to mentorship,to leading businesses and nonprofit organizations, you continue to raise the bar. You set new standards of what it means to be a leader.
You’re not just climbing ladders; you’re building them for the next generation.
The Call to Service: A Higher Purpose
I served the mission. I aimed for a higher purpose. You stepped into your roles not just out of duty but out of a deep sense of purpose. Your call to serve is was rooted in a desire to do more, to aim higher, and to make lasting impacts. Even in the face of discrimination, hardship, and danger, you’ve served with dignity and commitment.
And when you hung up your uniform for the last time, the mission didn’t end. You continue to serve your communities, advocating for others, standing up for those who can’t, and making the world a better place.
Your service extends into every corner of your lives, effecting change so that other people’s lives can be just a little bit better.
Blazing Trails for Others
I sacrificed for my nation. I blazed trails for others. Perhaps one of your most significant legacies is your role as a trailblazer. Simply by serving, you’ve opened doors that have been locked up tightly for centuries. You’ve advocated for equal opportunities, you’ve inspired young girls to aim higher, and you’ve built a legacy of empowerment and inclusion.
Today, young girls look up to you and see what’s possible. They see strong women who have served their country, who have made history, and who have created a space for others to do the same.
This is your impact – one that will last forever.

We invite you to embrace the Woman Veteran’s Creed. Share it with your sisters in service. Let it be a celebration of who you are and what you have accomplished. You are part of a proud legacy of perseverance, victory, leadership, and empowerment.

And for young girls, know that one day, when they realize how tall they stand, they’ll look down and see that the giant whose shoulders they stand on are yours.
